Glasha

Glasha already had a lot of information about herself. That movement is difficult. Often painful. The body does not give up. Sometimes it is better to give up trying to take new forms of action so as not to increase spasticity. That alone can not change the position …… The information that emerged from the first minute of the lesson was devoid of everything that Glasha knew about herself earlier. Movement was easy. Light. Enjoyable. Spasticity disappeared. She has become mobile – she can effortlessly roll, rotate .. and even sit down … lightly. Te spasticity disappeared.

I talked to Alan about her for a long time … but I’ll go back to the beginning. History shows in which ways the method can work I met her at a workshop for parents. They were there with a whole family, and later we had several Lessons of Functional Integration within seven months. These were the real lessons of consciousness through movement, though they seemed to have changed into consciousness lessons through sleep. As Glasha immediately fell asleep. As soon as she felt that a gentle wave of movement penetrated her whole body, she started to sleep.

She was in a strange kind of sleep that was not a sleep. A state similar to lethargy. Sometimes she made small eyelids gaps to see if the lesson was still going on, and then she was asleep again. She always knew when the end of the lesson was approaching. She opened her eyes at that time and came back to full activity, as though she was never asleep. I told Alan about it – with my suggestion. I thought that was a fear. Children are often afraid of touch. They have bad associations with it. They are tired of endless therapies. They perceive them as punishment. So I thought it was that. For Glasha, the body is more likely to cause anxiety than pleasure. So fearing of what she must give in to, she falls asleep. Also this kind of sleep was sort of escape from habitual reactions. Because Glasha’s always been protesting and crying loudly, so she would not have to do it again. Dormancy relieved her of the obligation to protest. She was allowed to take lessons without being subjected to surrender.

Alan knew that it was not an anxiety, that it was flowing from another level of nervous system. It was not a tactic – it was happening at the level of the nervous system, without any mental involvement of Glasha.

Her nervous system, thanks to a temporary suspension of consciousness, could more fully absorb new information coming from the body. That is development. On learning yourself. By moving more fully to ourselves, we recognize the emotions that we then learn to name, so that communication is possible. This is where identity is born. Glasha already had a lot of information about herself.

That movement is difficult. Often painful. The body does not give up. Sometimes it is better to give up trying to take new forms of action so as not to increase spasticity. That alone can not change the position ……

The information that emerged from the first minute of the lesson was devoid of everything that Glasha knew about herself earlier. Movement was easy. Light. Enjoyable. Spasticity disappeared. She has become mobile – she can effortlessly roll, rotate .. and even sit down … lightly. New Glasha, which may be exercising not only from the position of shouting and protest. It could work. Body not as an obstacle but as a tool to meet her needs. Express herself. Being herself. So not only learning and integrating new messages. But disintegrating as well.
